Before starting the exercises, download the work file.
You can print it and fill it out while reading the reading material.
And if there is no option to print, just write what is written in the work file on a piece of paper.

Exercise 1
Look at your list of steps, add another column. Put numbers there, how much money you need for each task.
  • How much should you pay for it if it's a human resource?
  • If people are volunteers, you need to pay for their transport or equipment
  • If you buy tools and equipment, where can you buy the cheapest?
Don't forget to look for free options or something your friends and family can help with.
Always assume that there will be unexpected expenses and it is better to write 10% more for each line. After the program, it is better to have savings than not to have enough money.

In startups, they say you should always start with FFF: Friends, Family, Fools.

Look around you, who among the people closest to you is interested in the problem to which you offer a solution or who can simply support you personally. First, turn to them for help.
Also, remember that weak ties are the ones who actually help us find new opportunities - jobs, funding, etc.

Weak ties are people you know and meet once in a while (not, for example, like your best friends). Therefore, they have different experiences and different connections and can act as bridges when you are looking for new opportunities.

They are the people you meet at school; friends who go to class with you but with whom you do not communicate much; friends of friends who you often meet on each other's birthdays; friends with whom you regularly chat online but don't interact much face-to-face. You can reach out to all of them, tell them about your idea, and ask for their support.

Of course, we google first to find all the possible options.

We can start by getting information about foundations and grants.
Open the Google and type your question.
You can write, for example, a grant and see what options there are.

If you don't find something you like in the list, you can add other keywords.

For example, agricultural grant 2023, grants Armenia, grants for agriculture, grants for small projects, etc.
You can do the same in your language.

For example, Armenian grants, grants for schools in Armenia, grants in Armenia 2023, youth grants in Armenia, and so on.

You can use any keyword near the topic to search.
Be careful while reading.
The published information must be current, and the grant must remain open for applications.

So they announce what they are willing to fund and give you a deadline for you to apply.

You need to put together a good application with a solid rationale, ambitious goals, and finance details and apply.

If you have a more mature project or can cooperate with a more mature initiative, you can contact international organizations in Armenia that support local projects. They may have information on their websites, but it's better to find acquaintances/connections in these organizations and ask them directly when and how you can apply. And what are the participation criteria?
Remember that sometimes you have to apply 100 places to get 1 grant. Therefore, it is good to apply for many different grants at once.

How to find individual donors?
You find their websites and see who the CEO/executive director/manager is.

Then you find those people on Facebook or LinkedIn and message them.
For that you open Google again and search for your country's biggest taxpayers, big street organizations.
In addition to foundations, individuals can provide money.

How to find individual donors?

When you ask people to support you, start with them, not you.

Do a little research on what they like or what initiatives they have supported in the past and focus on that. They need to have a reason to support you, so you need to emphasize what this support will do for them in the first place.

Then you can look for groups that are close to the topic or may include participants who would like to donate money.

In the case of Noyemberyan's team, the children looked for groups created around agriculture and similar topics or looked for groups of Armenians in the Diaspora.
2
And they wrote in those groups what an interesting project they started, its importance, and that those who want to support can help by donating money.

Remember, if you receive a donation from a foundation, international organization, company or individual, you must always report how you spent all the money.
So before you spend, double-check that it's the most reasonable price, and be sure to keep the invoices, receipts, and checks because you'll need to show them in the report.

Good and transparent reporting affects your reputation. And if people trust you, they'll support you more, so it's extremely important to get things right.

What happens when you fail?
What happens when you fail?
You thought and planned everything, but somehow it didn't work out. It's okay, everyone fails.

Your goal is not to get demotivated by it, but to start over. Research shows that people who can control their emotions are more satisfied with life, optimistic and focused.

Stoicism is a philosophy developed by such great men as the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius.

You have to try as hard as you really can. And then let it be as it is. You can't control what you can't control.
